Welcome to Makeda Pilates

We are Makeda Pilates – a classical Pilates Studio in the heart of Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg. Since 2015 we have been helping people of all ages, body types and backgrounds on their journey towards greater strength, flexibility and balance. We work according to the classical Pilates Method. That means full session training on the mat and the reformer.
As a mother-daughter duo running our black-owned studio, we are proud of the personal atmosphere we have created. It is very important to us that our studio is a safe space. Got any questions? Click here for our contact form.

Our current course program

This is our current course program. You can choose from your level flexibly each week. Please book your courses either directly at the studio or by sending a message via the contact form, email, or text message. All courses last 50 minutes and have a maximum of four participants.

*If you are unable to attend, booked courses must be cancelled 24 hours before starting, otherwise we will charge.

During the trial session, we’ll have the chance to get to know each other. You will have the opportunity to discuss your training goals and personal health issues. Additionally, we will give you a tour of the studio and answer any questions you may have. Trial sessions are always held as one-on-one sessions. The consultation will last about 20 minutes, and the rest of the session will be spent introducing you to the basic Pilates exercises. At the end of the trial session, you will receive a recommendation on how to get started with Makeda Pilates. Trial sessions are scheduled individually.

During the solo-session we will teach you the classical method. Level and intensity are tailored to your individual needs. Any health issues and goals can be addressed and processed individually. Solo sessions allow faster and more detailed development due to the individual focus. Solo sessions are scheduled individually.

This course is for beginners and anyone who wants to dive deeper into the classical Pilates method. You will learn all the basics and exercises of the intermediate level. We will teach the principles of the method: control, concentration, centering, precision, breathing, and flow. The focus of this course is alignment and flexibility. Each class is a full session, meaning that you will train on the reformer, mat and other Pilates equipment.

This course is for advanced students and anyone searching for a challenge in the method. It builds on the Pilates I courses and will include exercises of all levels following the classical Pilates system. This course focuses on strength, stability, flexibility, and endurance. The training takes place on the reformer or mat, supported by the Tower and other small equipment. Pilates II requires the knowledge and experience gained in Pilates I.

This course introduces younger people to the classical Pilates method. In order to carry the method into the future, this course makes our studio accessible and affordable for the younger generation.

As a Black-owned Pilates studio we know how important a safe space and community are. We want to provide this space as well as separating classical Pilates from common marketing clichés and biases. Black Girl Pilates is exclusively open to Black women and girls. The level currently varies depending on the experience of those present.

Our Trainers

Owner/Trainer

Jane Fiedrich

Jane attended her first Pilates class in Berlin in 2006, and Pilates has been a fundamental part of her life ever since. In 2014, she started studying classical Pilates with Helga Sylvester in Rotterdam. Jane has been certified for all levels of Peak Pilates since 2018.

In 2015 she opened Makeda Pilates in Prenzlauer Berg. Jane teaches strictly according to the classical method. She works with a wide variety of clients- people with injuries to high-performance athletes and everyone and every body in between.

Trainer

Lindiwe Fiedrich

Lindiwe practically grew up in the Makeda Pilates studio. As Jane’s daughter, she had her first Pilates lesson at the age of 14. In 2024, she started studying with Simone Förster and is officially certified according to Peak Pilates Comprehensive Level 1. Her mentors are her mother, Jane Fiedrich, and Waltraud Nehaider.

Lindiwe is currently training for Level 2. Among other things, she also manages our studio’s social media accounts.

It doesn’t have to be complicated to be effective.

At Makeda Pilates, you will learn the classical Pilates method in a relaxed atmosphere. Our certified trainers are friendly, mindful, and will guide you with high attentiveness. On the mat, you will experience Pilates in its purest form by truly getting in touch with your own strength and body awareness.

The reformer helps you build strength while being gentle on your joints. It opens up many possibilities for a versatile and challenging training and will be individually adjusted to your body.

This increases your awareness, helps you with mindful training, and allows you to find focus, contributing to an overall relaxation and stress reduction. Pilates strengthens you for a long, healthy life – breathing, precision, and a healthy alignment of the spine contribute to good function and movement.

Makeda Pilates is a Black-owned safe space with a familiar, inclusive, and diverse atmosphere where you will find not only physical but also mental support and feel truly seen. We love and live Pilates as a life-long process.

Did you know?

Pilates guides you where your body needs extra attention, e.g. when your pelvic floor needs strengthening, heavy changes like menopause, or when your spine suffers from herniated discs or scoliosis. Even in the case of recurring issues you may experience, such as menstrual discomfort, neck tension, or aching knees and shoulders, Pilates creates spaces for relief and renewed stability.
